Cyclone Gaja: Centre allocates Rs 353.70 crore to TN

New Delhi [india] Dec 1, (ANI): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has approved Rs 353.70 crore as an interim relief fund to Tamil Nadu for the damage caused in the state by Cyclone Gaja.
After a high-level meeting on Friday, Rajnath Singh approved the release of the second installment of the central share of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the year 2018-19.
Based on an interim memorandum submitted by Tamil Nadu government for additional assistance, the Central government constituted an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) on November 20 that visited all the affected areas in the state from November 23 to November 27.
Further assistance will be provided from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), based on the final report of IMCT.
The Central Government has provided full support to the Tamil Nadu Government by mobilising timely logistics resources to deal with the consequences of disaster effectively. The logistics support provided by the Centre includes adequate teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Air Force and Coast Guard helicopters and Navy and Coast Guard personnel along with necessary rescue equipment.
Around 12 districts of Tamil Nadu were severely hit by cyclone Gaja about two weeks ago claiming lives of as many as 46 people apart from causing widespread damage to property and livestock. (ANI)
