Cyclone Dana: West Bengal govt evacuates over 1.6 lac people, over 83000 people shifted to relief camps

Thousands of people have been evacuated and shifted to relief camps by the West Bengal government in the wake of Cyclone Dana, which is expected to make landfall at Thursday midnight.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], October 24 (ANI): Thousands of people have been evacuated and shifted to relief camps by the West Bengal government in the wake of Cyclone Dana, which is expected to make landfall at Thursday midnight.
According to the official data, so far the state government has evacuated 1,59,837 people and shifted 83,537 people to relief camps till now.
A safe zone has also been established for fishing trawlers at Mohana in Digha in Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal.
The control room in Howrah is also monitoring the situation ahead of the expected landfall.
West Bengal Disaster Management Minister Javed Ahmed Khan said that CM Mamata Banerjee is monitoring the situation.
"The CM herself is monitoring it, she will be present at night here. The control room is open 24*7. All the agencies have been alerted. Evacuation has also been done," Khan said.
Earlier in the day, CM Mamata Banerjee said that she will be monitoring the situation.
"I will be staying in Nabanna tonight till the time of landfall (of cyclone 'Dana')," said Mamata Banerjee.
The cyclonic storm "Dana" is expected to make landfall over the Odisha-West Bengal coast between October 24 and 25.
West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose extended support for the people of the state in the wake of Cyclone Dana and said that the people of Bengal have braved many storms and will face Dana with confidence and patience. He added "Bengal will stand together. India will stand together. We shall overcome."
In a video statement, Governor CV Ananda Bose said, "We are now, in a moment of crisis. Cyclone Dana is nearing but we in Bengal have braved many storms. We will face Dana also with confidence and fortitude. Bengal will stand together. India will stand together. We shall overcome. Please follow all instructions issued by the Government and Disaster Management Authorities. All Disaster Management machinery of the State Government and the Government of India are kept well-oiled and fit." (ANI)
