Customs Dept take Malappuram-based businessman in custody in gold smuggling case
Kochi (Kerala) [India], July 12 (ANI): The Customs Department on Sunday took into custody a Malappuram-based businessman, KT Rameez in a gold smuggling case.
Kochi (Kerala) [India], July 12 (ANI): The Customs Department on Sunday took into custody a Malappuram-based businessman, KT Rameez in a gold smuggling case.
Arrested from Vettathur in Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district today, Rameez was brought to the Customs Commissionerate (Preventive) at Kochi in the morning and questioned.
Later, Customs officials raided his house in Malappuram. The state police force lead by Perinthalmanna ASP M Hemalatha also assisted the Customs officials in the raid.
According to the customs officials and Perinthalmanna Police, they recovered his mobile phone, laptop, documents related to properties, bond papers, bank passbooks and cheques.
Rameez had been accused in a gold smuggling case at Kerala's Calicut International Airport in 2014 and also accused in a deer poaching case registered in 2014. The deer poaching case is registered in the Walayar police station at Palakkad district.
After his arrest, there are some allegations by CPM's media houses such as Kairali News and Deshabhimani that he is a relative of Indian Union Muslim League Loksabha MP PK Kunjalikkutty.
Kunjalikkutty's office, however, denied the allegation. (ANI)
