"Culprits must be hanged," says women's activist on Kolkata law student gangrape

Speaking to ANI, Varsha Mishra said, "I always say women are not safe anywhere. Whether it is doctors or lawyers, a character certificate should be issued to professionals before they are awarded their degree. A team should be constituted in all big institutes for this purpose. Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 28 (ANI): Women's rights activist Varsha Mishra on Saturday strongly criticised the lack of women's safety across the country and demanded severe punishment for the accused in the alleged Kolkata gangrape.
Speaking to ANI, Varsha Mishra said, "I always say women are not safe anywhere. Whether it is doctors or lawyers, a character certificate should be issued to professionals before they are awarded their degree. A team should be constituted in all big institutes for this purpose. The culprits must be hanged for this crime."
According to women's rights activist Varsha Mishra, the survivor was subjected to three hours of brutal assault and gangrape, and the crime was recorded on video to threaten her later.
"In Kolkata, a 24-year-old law student has been brutally raped by a man and his accomplices as she refused to marry him. She was beaten for three hours, raped and videotaped. They also threatened her that they would make the video live," Mishra told ANI.
Earlier on Saturday, BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh demanded West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's immediate resignation over the Kolkata gangrape case.
