"Created communal atmosphere": Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar hits back at Abhishek Banerjee's "demolished mosque" remarks

Majumdar's comments came in response to remarks made by TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, who had taken a swipe at Jan Unnayan Party chief Humayun Kabir. Kabir, a former BJP member, recently laid the foundation stone for a Babri Mosque in Murshidabad earlier this month. Banerjee had referred to Kabir in connection with the demolition of the mosque.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], December 28 (ANI): Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar on Sunday accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of fostering communal tensions in West Bengal as part of what he described as "appeasement politics."
He claimed that the TMC cannot see the Babri mosque as the Ram temple "obstructs" their vision.
Majumdar's comments came in response to remarks made by TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, took a dig at Jan Unnayan Party chief Humayun Kabir, who had earlier joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), that "demolished the mosque".
Kabir, a former BJP member, recently laid the foundation stone for a Babri Mosque in Murshidabad earlier this month. Banerjee had referred to Kabir in connection with the demolition of the mosque.
Speaking to reporters, Majumdar alleged that the TMC has deliberately created a communal atmosphere in the state to pursue appeasement politics. He further claimed that such politics is harming West Bengal and threatening the future of Hindus in the state.
"He won't be able to see the Babri Masjid because only the Ram Mandir is a thing which they can see, and that obstructs their vision... They have created this communal atmosphere in Bengal due to appeasement politics. He is an example of appeasement politics... This communal politics is destroying Bengal and destroying the future of Hindus in this state," Majumdar told reporters.
On Saturday, Abhishek Banerjee said there was no difference between Kabir and the BJP, since both play politics over the "temple mosque" issue. The TMC recently suspended Humayun Kabir after he announced to build a mosque in the name of Babur in Murshidabad early this month.
"Where is this (Babri Masjid) being built? I don't see any construction starting. If they want to play politics over the temple and mosque issue, what's the difference between them and the BJP? The BJP played politics over building a temple, and they are playing politics over building a mosque," Banerjee said while addressing a press conference here.
"Humayun Kabir is a former BJP candidate. The Babri Masjid incident happened in 1992, but he didn't understand this for 27 years and joined the BJP, which demolished the mosque," he added. (ANI)
