New Delhi, October 30 (ANI) The Supreme Court's recent order allowing the sale of "green crackers" ahead of the Diwali has not only angered the shopkeepers and customers but has also left them perplexed.
According to cracker ship-owners, the verdict of the apex court has forced them to shut their shops as they don’t have the "green crackers".
Both the shopkeepers and the customers across the national capital are unable to figure out as to what the apex court meant by "green fireworks".
Irked by the top court's verdict, the shopkeepers questioned as to why such a decision was taken just a few days before the Diwali festival. The ruling has directly hit their business and livelihood, they said.
According to the shopkeeper, they had already ordered and paid in advance for the crackers and this "decision would only ruin their livelihood".
According to Parveen, a fireworks shop owner at Jama Masjid, said that the apex court's decision has affected his business badly. He added that Diwali is the time when they earn good amount of money.
Another shopkeeper, Maheshwar Shrivastav said, "I want to know whether the air gets polluted only because of crackers? The air quality is in a severe category whereas Diwali is still days away. How are crackers to be blamed? Why not ban vehicles and air conditioners which are responsible for this,” he said.
Not only shopkeepers, customers are also unable to figure out what "green fireworks" meant. Kishor Kumar, a customer said that he was not able to get green crackers at any shop.
Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) scientists have developed less polluting firecrackers named as safe water releaser (SWAS), safe minimal aluminum (SAFAL) and safe thermite cracker (STAR) which are not only environment-friendly but 15-20 percent cheaper than the conventional ones. But these crackers would take time to come to the market. (ANI)
