New Delhi [India], November 10 (ANI): Communist Party of India (CPI) Rajya Sabha member P Sandosh Kumar on Sunday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek his urgent intervention for the rehabilitation of landslide victims in the area of Wayanad Including chooralmala.
Along with the letter, he also sent a photo of the little girl Nysa who lost her father and siblings in the landslide.
Earlier, when PM Modi visited Wayanad, his photo holding little Nysa in his hands went viral and attracted national attention.
Kumar who visited Nysa's residence two days back, claimed in the letter to PM that, she is still living in a rented accommodation provided by the state government.
Kumar in a letter to PM Modi, attached an image of Nysa Mol, and said "To remind you, Nysa Mol is a little girl with whom your image had gone viral when you visited the landslide-affected areas of Wayanad including Chooralmala on 10th of August 2024, 10 days after massive landslides wreaked havoc in the region."
"I have also attached your viral image with Nysa to remind you of your visit and the promises you made to the affected people. Little Nysa Mol lost her father and siblings in the most unfortunate manner. When you visited the affected region and your picture with Nysa Mol went viral, people who were devastated by the landslides looked at you with the hope of getting relief. However, reality turned out to be very different and the people of Chooralmala are still waiting for relief from the Union, especially after your pronouncement that "this disaster is not normal," he further said in the letter to the PM.
Additionally, the CPI leader said "Coming back to the life of little Nysa Mol, she is living in a rented accommodation provided by the Government of Kerala with her mother and grandmother. The family is getting Rs 300/- per day from the Government of Kerala for their needs. Your meeting with the little girl inspired hopes not just for her family, but for thousands of others who were crushed under the natural calamity but to no avail. While the Government of Kerala, with assistance from many voluntary and civil society organisations, is doing its level best to provide relief and rehabilitation, assistance, as required from the Union Government, has not reached Kerala in the way it should have. Little Nysa Mol got Rs 1,00,000/- in two instalments from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund while the Government of Kerala gave her Rs. 6,00,000/- after she lost her father and siblings."
He further demanded a special financial package to help in relief and rehabilitation efforts for Wayanad landslide survivors.
"Nysa Mol's story is just one example of how badly the landslides have hurt the people of Chooralmala and it demonstrates how much assistance is needed from the Union Government. The Government of Kerala has prepared a comprehensive and scientific plan for rehabilitation and is working to the best of its capacity to provide relief. In this context, I reiterate my demand, as I made on the floor of the Rajya Sabha the very morning tragedy had struck the region that the Chooralmala landslides be declared a national disaster and the Union Government must send a special financial package to help in relief and rehabilitation efforts. In the absence of concrete action from your side, many like little Nysa will only feel betrayed and the people of Kerala will see your image with her as a mere photo-op, devoid of actual sympathy for the people of Kerala. I hope this important matter will find your urgent attention," he said. (ANI)
