New Delhi [India], October 16 (ANI): Delhi's Rohini Court has sentenced a Maulvi to 12 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl who was his student and was sent to him for learning the Urdu language in the madarsa. This incident took place in 2018 in a locality in North West Delhi.
Special Judge (POCSO) Sushil Bala Dagar sentenced Mohd. Abdul Wahid to 12 years imprisonment under Section 6 of POCSO ( punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault).
The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict. He is also directed to pay Rs 11519 to state as prosecution expenses.
The court said that the offence committed against victim child "K" was under Section 6 of POCSO Act by the convict, i.e., the victim, namely "K," has been subjected to penetrative sexual assault and mental as well as physical trauma.
"As a result of the said incident, not only the victim even her family have been subjected to humiliation and insult by the society and incident has left grave impact on their mental, physical and emotional being for which they need financial support. The victim has faced a great mental trauma by the acts of the convict," the court said in the sentence order on October 14.
The court has directed the authorities to pay a compensation of Rs. 10.50 lakh to the victim. Additional Public Prosecutor Yogita Kaushik had argued that the offence committed by the convict in this matter is highly derogatory in nature. She sought a maximum punishment for the convict and submitted that the convict, who was the Maulvi, has committed grave offence of penetrative sexual assault upon the child victim "K" (identity withheld), a minor girl aged about 4 years when she was sent by her mother to learn Urdu language from the convict in the Madarsa.
As per the prosecution case, the convict had committed aggravated penetrative sexual assault upon the child victim, a "K" minor girl aged about 4 years. On November 19, 2018, the mother of the victim dropped her daughter 'K' at about 6.30 pm at Madarsa and sat in front of a house in the neighbourhood as she had to again come after 30 minutes to take her daughter back.
After 30 minutes, she knocked on the door of the Madarsa, to which the convict opened the door and she took her daughter 'K' to her house. After reaching home, her daughter 'K' informed her about the incident.
The victim child has testified against the convict in court, and her version is corroborated even by the medical report, the court noted in the order. Mohd. Abdul Wahid was held guilty for the offences on September 6, 2024. (ANI)
