New Delhi [India], Dec 6 (ANI): Bhola Singh, Member of Parliament of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Bulandshahr, claimed on Thursday that a policeman was seen resorting to lathicharge following which protesters turned violent in the Bulandshahr incident on December 3. Two persons, including an Inspector rank officer of the Uttar Pradesh Police, died in the violence.
"I have come across a video where a policeman is saying that protesters became violent only after police resorted to lathicharge. Why such a situation arose that general public was lathicharged instead of pacifying him?" Singh told ANI.
On December 3, Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was killed in the violence following carcasses of allegedly 25 cattle were found in the forests close to a police post, with locals alleging that the carcasses were of cows slaughtered illegally. Till now, four people have been arrested in connection with the case.
Earlier in the day, the Uttar Pradesh government as a mark of respect and rich tribute announced that Jaithari-Kuraoli road leading to the village of slain police officer in Etah has been renamed to 'Shri Subodh Kumar Singh Shahid Marg. A college will also be named after him.
The announcement was made after the family of the deceased cop met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and UP Director General of Police OP Singh at the official residence of the Chief Minister.
Following the gruesome incident, Adityanath had announced a compensation of Rs 40 lakh for Singh's wife, Rs 10 lakh for his parents and a government job for a member of his family. (ANI)
