Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 7 (ANI): The Municipal Corporation of Gorakhpur has taken swift action to remove controversial political posters found in various parts of the city.
Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Singh Sogarwal confirmed the removal of the posters from two unipoles and one hoarding on Thursday.
"We received the information regarding controversial posters on two unipole and one hoarding. The municipal corporation has removed the posters," Sogarwal said.
"For the hoardings of the Municipal corporation, we have given the tender to Jagran Next for the next 1 year. So, all the posters and hoardings are put through the Jagran Next. We have issued a notice to them," he added.
The controversial posters were discovered in the Paidleganj, Asuran, and Chatrasangh areas of Gorakhpur. The posters were reportedly related to certain political parties, prompting the district administration to initiate an investigation to determine their origins.
Sogarwal emphasized that the notice issued to Jagran Next demands clarification on who was responsible for putting up the posters and calls for immediate action to address the issue.
The district administration is actively looking into the matter to ascertain which political party is behind the posters, with further details expected as the investigation progresses.
The BJP, which won 62 seats during the 2019 elections, managed to hold their positions on 33 seats only in Uttar Pradesh, while its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) won two seats and Anupriya Patel-led Apna Dal (S) got one seat.
Notably, INDIA bloc, led by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, did a remarkable performance giving a significant blow to the BJP-led NDA's target of securing '400 seats'.
The BJP victory tally was much lower than its 2019 tally of 303 and the 282 seats it had won in 2014. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong growth, winning 99 seats compared to 52 that it had won in 2019 and 44 seats in 2014.
As per the results announced by the Election Commission of India on Tuesday, the BJP won 240 seats and along with its allies, it stands at 293 seats. Chandrababu Naidu's TDP and Nitish Kumar's JDU, having won 16 and 12 seats respectively in their respective states, have extended support to the NDA. (ANI)
