New Delhi [India], May 22 (ANI): INDIA bloc candidate Jai Prakash Aggarwal from the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency hit the campaign trail on Wednesday for the upcoming Parliamentary elections in Delhi.
The National Capital would vote on May 25 in the sixth phase.
JP Aggarwal, a veteran Congressman, is standing against Parveen Khandelwal of the BJP for the seat in the 2024 general elections.
Aggarwal told ANI, " This is my home; I have a connection with people...I filed my 20th election nomination from here...I will work on every issue related to the constituency, from the smallest to the biggest..."
On the BJP claiming that it will win all 7 seats in Delhi, he said, "(The issues of) Chandi Chowk were not discussed for once inside the Parliament in the last ten years. Where were they (BJP MPs) during the Corona? On what basis would the people give their vote to them?"
On Tuesday, Aggarwal campaigned in the constituency by taking out a procession from the main gate of Priyadarshini Colony to Jamuna Ghat, Civil Line and Majnu Ka Tila in the Civil Lines ward. He also interacted with the residents. Aggarwal requested them to vote in favour of the INDIA alliance on May 25.
"During this entire journey, tremendous enthusiasm and confidence were seen in all the local citizens, which was a confirmation that this time the people of the country have resolved to make the INDIA coalition government victorious with a huge majority," he said after the rally.
Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal held a roadshow in support of Aggarwal in Delhi's Model Town.
The Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress are fighting the elections in alliance in the national capital, with the AAP contesting four and the Congress three seats.
The BJP has won the Chandni Chowk constituency in the last two Lok Sabha elections in 2014 and 2019, with former Union Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan representing the area for the past 10 years.
The first five phases of polling were held on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13 and May 20.
The next two rounds of voting will be held on May 26 and June 1.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections are being held in seven phases, in a six-week marathon running from April 19 to June 1. The counting and results will be announced on June 4. (ANI)
