Congress' real face exposed over impeachment matter: BJP

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 08 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said the real face of the Congress has been exposed after the latter withdrew its petition, filed in the Supreme Court, against the rejection of the impeachment notice against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra.
Addressing a press conference here, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "Today, we have seen the real face of the Congress party. One of the petitions that the Congress party had brought to the notice of the Supreme Court has been dismissed."
Patra added that though the BJP does not want to comment on any of the observations and decisions are taken by the highest court of the country for it respects the judiciary, but "we would like to make an important point here that this whole journey of the Congress in this particular case of impeachment has only exposed the face of the Congress as never before".
Congress withdrew its petition a day after its leaders Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament Pratap Singh Bajwa and Amee Harshadray Yajnik moved a petition in the top court that the rejection of the impeachment notice was "illegal and arbitrary".
Another BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli also castigated Congress over the impeachment issue.
"What is the Congress party up to? Is this not going to be seen in terms of being a case of forum shopping trying to determine how a case should be heard, before which bench it should be heard, raising questions on it," Kohli said after Congress leader Kapil Sibal questioned the constitution of a five-judge bench to hear the plea.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh, too, launched a scathing attack on Congress and said the party can go to any extent for the sake of votes.
"The Congress party and its allies do not care about constitutional positions and its prestige when it comes to votes. They can even go to international court against India for the sake of votes," Singh said.
After the withdrawal of the petition, Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal questioned the decision to assign the case to a five-judge constitution bench through an administrative order.
He wanted to know who passed the order that Congress' petition would be heard by a five-judge bench. (ANI)
