Congress raises questions over BJP's "selective outrage, selective silence" on judiciary issues

Singhvi expressed concern over the selective outrage and silence on the issues surrounding these two judges, suggesting that the BJP's actions are driven more by optics than a genuine commitment to the law.

New Delhi [India], July 26 (ANI): Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Saturday accused the BJP of double standards in its approach to judicial matters, particularly regarding Justice Varma and Justice Yadav.
Singhvi expressed concern over the selective outrage and silence on the issues surrounding these two judges, suggesting that the BJP's actions are driven more by optics than a genuine commitment to the law.
The case of Justice Yashwant Varma pertains to the matter of recovery of a huge pile of burnt notes from his official residence following a fire call in March this year, while the case of Justice Yadav deals with the controversial speech delivered at a gathering organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
Addressing a press conference, Singhvi criticised the BJP for its "double standards" regarding judicial propriety, the anti-corruption movement, and judicial accountability, saying that their actions don't match their words. He criticised the BJP for its inconsistent response to judicial controversies, highlighting the party's silence on Justice Yadav's case while actively pursuing action against Justice Varma.
He said, "We are also very concerned about this selective outrage and selective silence on the Justice Varma, Justice Yadav two judges' issues. This is typical BJP's double standard. The BJP's game of motions is less about law and more about optics... On judicial propriety, on anti-corruption movement and on judicial accountability, the BJP's mantra is talk the talk, never walk the walk. It is the worst example of hypocrisy on this entire episode."
The Congress MP also raised questions over former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation, citing "health reasons" as the reason for stepping down from the position. Singhvi suggested that Dhankhar's recent actions, possibly showing some independence, might have been perceived as a mistake by the BJP, leading to the current situation.
"It appears that Mr Dhankhar's showing of some minimal independence, possibly belatedly, was his real mistake. No other mistake," he alleged.
Furthermore, Singhvi questioned Dhankhar and Central government for their "eloquent silence" on the matter pertaining to Justice Yadav.
He said, "In this climate of selective outrage and politicised morality, we must also ask the question from both former Vice President Dhankhar and the Government of India as to this continuing eloquent silence on Justice Yadav. You are so particular about Lok Sabha versus Rajya Sabha, but you maintain this remarkably eloquent silence on Justice Yadav, a person whose comments as a sitting judge read more like manifestos of a political party than any legal reasoning..." The post also highlighted the 2020 COVID-19 oxygen crisis, when families stood in long lines outside hospitals and suppliers as the public health system collapsed.
