New Delhi [India], July 30 (ANI): Congress MP Manish Tewari on Tuesday gave an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha demanding a discussion on the border situation and the huge trade deficit with China.
In the notice he said, "I hereby give notice of my intention to ask for leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the house for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent importance, namely:- That this House do suspend Zero Hour and relevant rules relating to Question Hour and other businesses of the day to have a discussion on the border situation and the huge trade deficit with China,"
"Since 2019, there have been ongoing border clashes between India and China, with reports of Chinese troops blocking access to patrolling points in Eastern Ladakh. Recently, China rejected the Inauguration of the Seva tunnel and claimed parts of Arunachal Pradesh as its territory. Additionally, in 2023-24, India's trade deficit with China exceeded USD 85 billion, with exports at USD 16.65 billion and imports at USD 101.75 billion. I urge the Government to inform the House about the border situation and the trade deficit, and to provide details on efforts to resolve the border dispute and protect India's integrity against Chinese aggressions. I request permission to raise this matter," he added.
Meanwhile, Congress MP KC Venugopal has given an adjournment Motion notice in Lok Sabha regarding the massive landslide in Wayanad. He urges immediate search and rescue measures.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George has confirmed the deaths of 11 people as the landslides struck the hilly areas near Meppadi early this morning.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of deceased in the landslides that hit Kerala's Wayanad on Tuesday.
"The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased in the landslides in parts of Wayanad," PM Modi said in a post on X.
A large number of people also remain trapped in the area, where rescue workers are finding it difficult to access.
PM Modi said that he spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and assured all possible help from the Centre in the wake of the prevailing situation there.
Rescue operations are currently underway to assist all those affected, he added.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has given directions to coordinate the rescue operations in Wayanad promptly following the devastating landslide. He announced that the entire government machinery is actively involved in the efforts, with Ministers overseeing and coordinating the operations.
250 members of the Fire and Rescue, Civil Defence, NDRF, and Local Emergency Response Teams are carrying out the rescue operation in Wayanad's Chooralmala. An additional team of NDRF are en route, the KSDMA said.
