New Delhi [India], September 1 (ANI): Congress MP Manickam Tagore claimed that the party was confident in winning more than 70 seats this time in the upcoming Haryana Assembly polls.
"Haryana is in a very positive mood for Congress. We all expect more than 70 seats this time. We know that the momentum is on Congress' side. So, we want the process of selection of candidates as well as the combination of other things in the right way," said the MP.
Earlier, Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan and LoP of Haryana Assembly Bhupinder Singh Hooda also attended the Haryana Screening committee meeting at Himachal Bhavan to discuss the upcoming elections.
Tagore said that more than 2500 candidates have applied in the party to contest the elections, and in that regard senior leaders had a meeting about the process, he said "Senior leaders, all are having meetings about the same process. More than 2500 candidates have applied. So, Congress CEC will decide about winning candidates."
Both Congress MP Manickam Tagore and AICC in-charge of Haryana, Deepak Babaria had criticised the decision of the Election Commission to postpone the Haryana assembly polls and accused the poll body of working for the BJP. "The unpopular government in Haryana which is led by BJP will be defeated with a huge margin in each constituency and the Congress government will be formed in Haryana with a clear verdict from the people," Tagore said.
Babaria had also said that the delay will not affect the party's preparations for the polls. "...BJP had issues. They were running the government for 10 years through adhocism, they set the dates through the same adhocism...later the dates were changed. But in this process, the affected the entire administration, voters and timetable...This won't affect us at all. We see this as nothing else but their failure," Babaria said.
The decision for postponement was taken to honour both the voting rights and the traditions of the Bishnoi community, which has upheld a centuries-old practice of participating in the Asoj Amavasya festival celebration in remembrance of their Guru Jambheshwar, as per the ECI.
This year, the festival will take place on October 2, and thousands of Bishnoi families residing in Sirsa, Fatehabad, and Hisar will be travelling to Rajasthan on poll day, denying them their voting rights, the Election Commission of India said.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday, August 31, revised the polling day for Haryana Assembly polls from October 1 to October 5, as well as moved the counting of votes for both Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana assemblies from October 4 to October 8. (ANI)
