"Congress has protected values of Constitution": Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 14 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday lauded the Congress' efforts for upholding the values enshrined in the Indian Constitution, highlighting the party's leadership in safeguarding the nation's founding principles.
Speaking to the media on the occasion of the 135th birth anniversary of the architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr BR Ambedkar, Shivakumar emphasised that the Congress party had been instrumental in the formation of the Constitution under Ambedkar's leadership.
He reiterated the Congress Party's long-standing commitment to maintaining social justice.
"The Congress party has given the Constitution to the country through the leadership of Baba Saheb Ambedkar... Congress has protected the values of the Constitution. Our leaders, from day one, have been fighting to protect the Constitution," Shivkumar stated.
Earlier today, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge reaffirmed the party's commitment to protecting "constitutional values" and "democracy" as he paid tribute to the Father of the Indian Constitution, Dr BR Ambedkar, on the occasion of his 135th birth anniversary.
Taking to X, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha highlighted Ambedkar's contribution to shaping the democratic framework of India based on "justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity", noting that these were the "most powerful tools" for "social justice and inclusive development".
He added that Ambedkar had described inclusiveness as his ultimate duty for the country's unity and progress while also emphasising the importance of protecting the rights of all.
April 14, 2025, marks the 135th birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar. Fondly known as 'Babsaheb', he was the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and is thus also called the 'Father of the Indian Constitution. Ambedkar was also the first law and justice minister of independent India.
Babasaheb was born into an impoverished Dalit Mahar Family in Madhya Pradesh. He fought tirelessly for the equal rights of marginalised sections of society. Later, he was revered as a 'Dalit Icon' for his contributions towards their rights. (ANI)
