Congress corners Centre over fuel price hike

New Delhi [India], Aug. 31 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Friday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central Government's 'Acche Din' promise over fuel price hike.
"I don't know when this government will stop making false promises on 'Acche Din'. It is unbelievable that there is a difference of mere Rs. 100 between petrol and diesel price. If the government can't manage the current situation then why don't they cut some taxes," Singhvi told ANI.
Singhvi's statement comes amid steep increase in petrol and fuel prices in several states across the country.
In Delhi, the petrol price was increased to Rs. 78.52 per litre and diesel to Rs. 70.21 per litre on Friday. Petrol price has been increased by Rs 0.22 per litre since Thursday and diesel price by Rs 0.28 per litre.
Not only the national capital, Mumbai also saw a hike in fuel prices today, as petrol prices have shot up from Rs 85.72 per litre on Thursday, to Rs 85.93 per litre, and diesel prices have increased from Rs 74.24 per litre to Rs 74.54 per litre.
The Congress leader also cornered the government over weaking of rupee against US dollar and said, "It is good when prosperity, growth, success touches the sky but when the value of the rupee in a devalued mode touches the sky, it is something to be concerned about. Many believe that it is in fact insulting to the nation."
The Indian rupee breached the 71 mark on Friday as it opened at a fresh record low of 70.95 per dollar versus the previous close at 70.74. (ANI)
