Pushprajgarh (Madhya Pradesh) [India], Nov 10 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday fired a fresh salvo at the Congress party, asserting they were creating obstructions when development works were being carried out by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state.
Addressing a rally here, Chouhan pointed out that the poor conditions of roads and erratic electricity and water supplies in the state, which he alleged, were not taken care of during the previous Congress government headed by Digvijaya Singh.
"When I came to power in 2003, Madhya Pradesh was in a terrible condition. Roads were in a bad shape. There was no power and electricity supply in villages. And now, everything has changed. Roads have been paved in all villages. Electricity connection has been expanded and power supply reach has widened," he said.
Continuing his tirade, Chouhan claimed that the people were fed up with the Congress party, which had betrayed them several times.
"When I give food grain by charging just Re 1 to the poor people, Congress gets agitated. When I carry out development works, Congress gets angry. I pay fees for the poor children, Congress gets perturbed. I gave strict punishment to the rapists, which they didn't give, Congress gets angry. A farmer's son, who at the helm for 13 years, Congress cannot digest this fact and are agitated," the Madhya Pradesh chief minister said.
Chiding the Congress with their pet slogan of 'Garibi Hatao', Chouhan remarked, "This has been there since the time of Indira ji (Gandhi) and Rajiv ji (Gandhi). But the poor did not get anything. They were betrayed. I vow to eliminate poverty with programmes aimed at the welfare of the poor people."
He underlined that all poor will be able to live in a concrete house by 2022, adding that 10 lakh jobs will be created, if the BJP retains power. Chouhan said that his aim was to eliminate poverty in Madhya Pradesh in next five years. He appealed to the people to vote for the BJP without any hesitation.
Further sharpening his attack on the Congress, Chouhan said, "For plucking tendu leaves, I gifted chappals (slippers) for my sisters and shoes for my brothers, drinking water and saris for my sisters. The Congress could not digest all this and asked the people not to wear these chappals as these were infested with cancer. Will I ever send cancer-infested chappals to you?"
Madhya Pradesh is slated to go to polls in a single phase on November 28 for 230 constituencies. Counting of votes will take place on December 11. (ANI)
