New Delhi [India], September 2 (ANI): Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Tuesday emphasised that competitiveness would only improve with a sustainable pathway as India continues to remain committed to its sustainability goals.
The Union Minister was addressing the gathering at the 'CII Sustainability Summit' held in the national capital. The summit was organised on the topic 'Competitive & Sustainable: Pillars of India's Trade Transformation'.
Speaking at the summit on the subject of sustainability, Goyal said, "It is unfortunate that certain important players, certain important countries, have chosen to forego the agenda of sustainability...India continues to remain committed to our sustainability goals. We believe our competitiveness will only get better with a sustainable pathway..."
He recalled his role as Minister of Power and the work done to improve the transmission infrastructure. "I remember the first three years itself, we put such massive investments into the transmission infrastructure, and we focused our energies to make India's entire grid and interconnected national grid, one nation, one grid, so that power would flow seamlessly."
The Union Minister further urged for self-reliant manufacturing so that 'Make in India' products help the country in this journey. "We are not a mercy of any country...Our supply chains are still there...that is the Strength of India," he added.
Reacting to the subject of sustainability, Goyal said that there is no comparable power available anywhere in the world at this price, which is renewable round the clock, including eight hours.
Earlier on August 31, the Union Minister expressed optimism that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, India would not only achieve the target of becoming the third-largest economy within the next three years but also transform into a "self-confident developed India" by 2047, fulfilling the government's long-term resolution.
"It shows what potential India has, how strong India's economy is, how fast India is progressing, how the work of ending poverty is being done successfully in India and how in the coming years India will become the third largest economy of the world by 2027 and a self-confident developed India by 2047, we will fulfill the Prime Minister's resolution of 2047," he said.
