New Delhi [India], Feb 1 (ANI): The Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is slated to inspect the 9.41 km long Dilshad Garden to New Bus Adda corridor of Delhi Metro's Red Line extension on February 5.
SK Pathak, the metro rail safety commissioner, will inspect the new stretch for a day and after receiving a safety certification, the corridor will get ready for operations and a new date for its commissioning will be fixed by the authorities.
"Red Line extension update. Safety inspection on 9.41 km section from Dilshad Garden to New Bus Adda by Commissioner, Metro Rail Safety, Sh. SK Pathak is scheduled for 5 Feb. After receiving safety certification, the corridor will open for services & cater to new areas in Ghaziabad," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tweeted.
The safety inspection is the last step before the commissioning of any metro stretch.
The upcoming corridor has eight stations -- Shaheed Nagar, Raj Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala, Hindon River and New Bus Adda.
The entire stretch, part of the currently operational Dilshad Garden-Rithala stretch, is elevated and is constructed along the busy GT Road that sees heavy traffic movement throughout the day.
When the Red Line extension opens, it would be the second metro line to connect Ghaziabad as opposed to Blue Line that connects Vaishali and also the first to connect the interior areas of Ghaziabad.
The new stretch is expected to solve commuters' woes currently travelling from Dilshad Garden to Ghaziabad by autos, e-rickshaws and gramin sevas and will benefit those living in Sahibabad Industrial Area and its nearby areas.
Trial runs on the Dilshad Garden-New Bus Adda corridor began last year. (ANI)
