Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 30 (ANI): After the Karur stampede, which claimed 41 lives, Tamil Maanila Congress General Secretary, AS Munavar Basha, on Tuesday demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister Stalin and arrest of the District Collector, IG and SP.
He stated that most of the political parties in Tamil Nadu were requesting a CBI inquiry into the incident.
Speaking to ANI, Basha said, "I don't know why such a small place was given for a rally of Vijay. Most of the political parties in Tamil Nadu will ask for a CBI inquiry into the incident. The incident has affected him, which is why he has not come before you all yet. Most of the people expect him to go and see the injured victims and meet the families of the deceased. The District Collector, IG and SP need to be arrested. The police gave permission for this gathering."
The TMC leader said that the NDA team, led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Hema Malini, visited the affected area in Karur and found that the place was insufficient for conducting a big rally for an actor of Vijay's stature.
"The NDA team, led by Hema Malini, visited the affected area in Karur and found out that the place was not sufficient for conducting a big rally for actor Vijay. The NDA team did not accept the state government enquiry commission led by retired Justice Aruna Jagadeesan. The commission will not take any severe action. The main reason is the small place allotted to TVK for the rally. The police were in very small numbers and did not do anything to control this crowd," he said.
"Vijay is very much affected and upset because of the incident. Within few days he will come out and meet the victims. Already, he has announced the compensation for the victims and injured. More than 41 people have died. The CM should resign," he added.
Earlier, BJP MP Hema Malini, who arrived in Karur on Tuesday to inspect the site of the stampede that took place on September 26 during a public event of the TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam) chief and actor Vijay, said that the large number of gathering should have been avoided if the party leader was aware of his popularity.
Malini further blamed the administration and called the incident "unfortunate." (ANI)
