The much-anticipated 37th National Games began in Goa on Thursday at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium with a lamp-lighting ceremony by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
However, the official opening ceremony of the 37th National Games will take place on October 26 at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially inaugurate the games.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister distributed sports kits to the players participating in the 37th National Games from the state.

Besides, the 'Chief Minister Sports Development Fund' has also been established to provide quick financial benefits to the players as per rules," he said.
Dhami said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has increased the respect of every player of the state during his visit to Pithoragarh.
"The state government has made arrangements for financial assistance in case of accidents to players while travelling to competitions and training camps. The state government is going to make rules to provide a 5 per cent sports quota for admission to professional courses in universities. Arrangements have been made to provide grants for the construction of sports infrastructure facilities through private sports fields.
