New Delhi [India], March 21 (ANI): The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, inaugurated the" Accessibility Help Desk" and "Media Enclosure" at the Supreme Court Complex on Thursday, saying now we have a one-stop facility where all the services will be available.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration, CJI Chandrachud said, "We've opened an accessibility help desk; this is in continuation of our mission, which began with the submission of our report by the committee chaired by Justice Ravindra Bhatt."
The Committee made various suggestions for making the Supreme Court accessible for people with special needs, not just the differently abled but senior citizens, pregnant women and all those people who require special assistance, he said.
"Now, we have a one-stop facility where all the services will be available. This is just the beginning, we are implementing the other recommendations made by the committee, which consists of experts and stakeholders," CJI said.
He expressed concern that camerapersons have no place to sit while covering Supreme Court proceedings.
"I hope that this will be a much-needed welcome facility for the media. We have a large contingent of the media that reports the proceedings of the Supreme Court, which are matters of public interest," the CJI said.
"I was always worried about the fact that the camerapersons have no place to sit. I hope this will be a special facility where all of you can sit and do your work without being exposed to the elements like the heat of the summer or rain," he added.
The companion judges of the top court and other dignitaries were also present at the event.
In November last year Chief Justice Chandrachud Chief had inaugurated Mitti Cafe, run by an NGO on the Supreme Court premises in the national capital. The cafe is completely run by specially-abled staff. (ANI)
