New Delhi [India], December 4 (ANI): Delhi Minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai on Wednesday slammed the BJP-led central government over the law and order situation in the national capital in light of the recent murder in Neb Sarai.
"The rate at which crime is increasing in Delhi, every citizen is feeling unsafe. Instead of paying attention to the triple murder that happened today, the BJP and Amit Shah are saying that it is not an issue that concerns them," Rai claimed.
It comes after a man, his wife and their daughter were stabbed to death at their residence in Delhi's Neb Sarai on Wednesday. According to Delhi police, the murders were carried out by the couple's son, who had claimed to have been on a morning walk at the time.
"Three people from a house including a man, his wife and daughter, in the Neb Sarai area of South Delhi were stabbed to death. Their son-fourth member of the family had gone out for a walk," officials said.
Speaking about the attack on former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in Golden Temple premises in Amritsar, the Delhi Minister said that the Punjab government will investigate the incident.
"The Punjab government has never tolerated such crimes. They will investigate what happened today (firing in Golden Temple). Delhi becoming the crime capital is an example of BJP's failure," he said.
There was an attempt on the life of Badal on Wednesday in Golden Temple premises in Amritsar where he was performing penance under the religious punishment pronounced by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
The attacker, identified as Narain Singh Chaura, was immediately nabbed by the police. Sukhbir Badal was not hurt.
The Shiromani Akali Dal leader was sitting at the entrance of the Golden Temple with a plaque card around his neck as part of the 'tankhah' (religious punishment) pronounced by the high priests at Akal Takht for "religious misconduct".
Badal was declared a 'tankhaiya' (guilty of religious misconduct) in August by Akal Takht, who announced religious punishment on Monday.
Gopal Rai also criticised the government for stopping Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi from visiting the violence-hit Sambhal district alleging that its actions suggest an attempt to conceal information.
"What is the BJP hiding there, by not letting the LoP visit (Sambhal)?" he said.
Meanwhile, after being stopped at the Ghazipur border in Ghaziabad on his way to violence-hit Sambhal, Rahul Gandhi stated that visiting Sambhal was his constitutional duty and described the restrictions placed on him as unconstitutional.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi wrote in Hindi: "The police stopped us from going to Sambhal. As the Leader of the Opposition, it is my right and duty to go there. Yet I was stopped. I am willing to go alone, but even that was not allowed. This is against the Constitution. Why is the BJP afraid? Why is it using the police to conceal its failures? Why is it suppressing the message of truth and brotherhood?"
Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi, along with Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi and other Congress leaders, was stopped by the police at the Ghazipur border while attempting to proceed to Sambhal. They eventually returned to Delhi.
The violence in Sambhal erupted on November 24 during an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) examination of a Mughal-era mosque. The clashes resulted in four fatalities and multiple injuries among police personnel and locals.
The ASI survey was prompted by a petition filed in a local court, claiming the mosque was originally built on the site of a Harihar temple. (ANI)
