Patna (Bihar) [India], February 18 (ANI): Amid the farmers' protest, JDU leader Neeraj Kumar called on the Centre to consider the demands of farmers and come out with a solution.
Kumar emphasized the importance of addressing the concerns raised by the farmers, highlighting the recommendations of Dr Swaminathan on Minimum Support Price (MSP)
Speaking to ANI, JDU leader Neeraj Kumar said, "The farmers' demand should be heard by the Centre. Dr Swaminathan has been awarded with Bharat Ratna, so the reports given by him, specially pertaining to the MSP, should be taken into consideration by the Centre," he said.
"If there is a protest on the MSP, then there should be a discussion on it, and there must be a solution for it," he added.
At the Shambhu Border, security forces continued to resist farmers attempting to enter the national capital as the protests entered their sixth day on Sunday.
Leaders of the Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee mentioned that the government had requested time to discuss the matter with union ministers during the ongoing talks.
"It is our sixth day at the Shambhu border. Today we are also holding fourth round of talks with the government. The government has asked for some time and said that it will discuss the matter with the union ministers and find a solution to it," the committee's general secretary Sarvan Singh Pandher said on Sunday.
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait on Tuesday said that demands for law on MSP, implementation of Swaminathan Committee report and debt waiver concern all farmers who have embarked on 'Delhi Chalo' protest over these issues.
Notably, The Swaminathan Committee report recommends providing farmers with a Minimum Support Price (MSP) at 50 percent profit above the cost of production classified as C2 by the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP).
Notably, the farmers' demands in the 2024 protests include the implementation of the M.S. Swaminathan Committee's recommendations, withdrawal of cases from the previous agitation in 2020-21, a monthly pension of Rs 10,000, Minimum Wages under MGNREGA, and MSP for all crops. (ANI)
