New Delhi [India], September 21 (ANI): The Central government, through the Ministry of Law and Justice, on Friday issued a notification transferring Justice Shamim Ahmed, a judge of the Allahabad High Court, to the Madras High Court.
"In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of, India, is pleased to transfer Justice Shamim Ahmed, Judge of the Allahabad High Court, to be a Judge of the Madras High Court and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Madras High Court," the notification read.
Recently, the Supreme Court Collegium has declined the request of Allahabad High Court judge Justice Shamim Ahmed for reconsideration of his transfer to the Madras High Court. The Collegium reiterated its decision, stating that the transfer was made for the better administration of justice.
The Supreme Court Collegium, on August 21, proposed the transfer of Justice Shamim Ahmed from the Allahabad High Court to the Madras High Court "for better administration of justice."
This decision was made after consultations with a Supreme Court judge familiar with the affairs of the Allahabad High Court, as well as with the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court and the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, in accordance with the Collegium's procedures.
Despite Justice Ahmed's request for reconsideration, the Collegium did not find sufficient grounds to change its decision and has reiterated its recommendation from August 21. Justice Ahmed was first appointed as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on December 12, 2019, and was made a permanent judge on March 26, 2021.
Before his elevation, he practiced law since 1993, specialising in various fields including civil, constitutional, service, labor, company, and criminal laws. (ANI)
