Centre notifies appointment of Justice Siddharth Mridul, Judge of Delhi HC as Chief Justice of Manipur HC

New Delhi [India], October 16 (ANI): The Ministry of Law and Justice on Monday notified the appointment of Justice Siddharth Mridul, Judge of the Delhi High Court as Chief Justice of Manipur High Court.
Notification issued in this regard stated that, in the exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint Justice Siddharth Mridul, Judge of the Delhi High Court, as Chief Justice of Manipur High Court.
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal also wished him on Twitter stating, "I convey best wishes to him"
The Supreme Court Collegium in July month had recommended the recommended appointment of Justice Siddharth Mridul, Judge, High Court of Delhi, as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur. On July 5, the Collegium found Justice Mridul "fit and suitable in all respects for being appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur".
Last week, the Central Government informed the Supreme Court that it would shortly issue a notification for the appointment of the chief justice of the Manipur High Court.
Justice Siddharth Mridul was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Delhi on 13 March 2008 and has been functioning as the seniormost puisne Judge in his parent High Court. A bench headed by Justice Sidharth Mridul last week in a landmark judgement had commuted the death sentence of Ariz Khan into life in the Batla House Encounter case. (ANI)
