Centre notifies appointment of 2 judges for Madras HC, One for Manipur HC

The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on January 10 this year had approved the proposal for the elevation of Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui, Judicial Officers as Judges in the Manipur High Court.

New Delhi [India], October 13 (ANI): The Centre Government on Friday notified the appointment of two lawyers as Additional Judges of Madras High Court and also notified the elevation of one judicial officer as Judge for Manipur High Court.
Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal posted on X in this regard and stated that "in exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President of India, after consultation with Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui (Judicial officer) as Judge of a Manipur High Court and N Senthilkumar (Advocate) G. Arul Murugan (Advocate) as additional Judges of Madras High Court. I convey my best wishes to them.
The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on January 10 this year had approved the proposal for the elevation of Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui, Judicial Officers as Judges in the Manipur High Court.
In July month, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the names of N. Senthilkumar and G Arul Murugan two Advocates for appointment as Judges of the Madras High Court.
For N Senthilkumar, Advocate, Collegium noted that "we have considered the inputs provided by the Government in the file in conjunction with the report of the present Collegium of the High Court and the opinion of the consultee-Judges in the Supreme Court who have opined that the candidate is suitable for elevation".
The candidate has a standing of over twenty-eight years at the Bar. He has experience of appearing before the Sessions Court and the Madras High Court. He has been practising in constitutional, criminal, service and civil cases. His field of specialisation is criminal and constitutional law.
For G Arul Murugan, Advocate, collegium noted that we have considered the inputs provided by the government in the file in conjunction with the report of the present Collegium of the High Court and the opinion of the consultee-Judges who have concurrently found that the candidate is suitable for appointment as a judge of the High Court. The candidate has experience of over twenty-four years at the Bar. He has appeared before the Madras High Court and various Tribunals.
He has specialised in civil, criminal and writ cases. He has good practice at the Bar and has appeared in cases resulting in seventy-five reported judgments. The candidate belongs to the OBC category. His appointment as a judge will facilitate greater representation to the OBCs in appointment to the higher judiciary. (ANI)
