New Delhi (India) Mar 15 (ANI): A Special CBI court directed the Income Tax Department to furbish complaint copy and documents related to the case in which they wanted to quiz Gautam Khaitan.
Special CBI Judge Arvind Kumar directed the IT department to furbish the said documents and slated the matter for March 18.
During the course of the hearing, Khaitan’s counsel Advocate Pramod Dubey opposed the plea filed by the Income Tax department saying that IT has not mentioned anything about the case.
IT department had approached the court to question Khaitan in an income tax case in judicial custody (Tihar Jail) to record his statement.
The Income Tax department has mentioned that there is evidence. “Many of these evidence show tax evasions and that he has to be questioned regarding this and stashed black money,” the Income Tax Department contended.
On Monday, the Enforcement Directorate attached properties of lawyer Gautam Khaitan located at New Delhi, Haryana and UK worth Rs. 8.46 crores under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The development came to light just days after the Delhi High Court sought a reply from Union of India on the plea filed by Khaitan challenging the legality and validity of various acts including the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act, 2015.
In February, the Patiala House Court issued a production warrant against Khaitan in the AgustaWestland case. Enforcement Directorate had told the court that some reports are awaited from MHA regarding other accused like Guido Haschke and Carlos Gerosa. The Patiala House Court had adjourned the hearing for 9th May. (ANI)
