Cattle business brisk in Tripura this Eid due to no smuggling

Sepahijala (Tripura) [India], September 2 (ANI): With the smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh due to strict vigilance by the Border Security Forces (BSF) and increased border fencing, most of the cattle markets in bordering areas did good business this year on Eid-al-Adha in Tripura.

The cattle markets that used to sell sacrificial cattle for Eid-al-Adha have been full of trade since yesterday due to the festival.

Traders were happy as sale picked up pace and most of the cattle are sold at higher prices since Friday even before the festival.

Customers, however, alleged higher prices but had no other option but to buy the sacrificial animal in last-minute bargains.

Buyers crowded the Bishalghar cattle market of Sepahijala district in the afternoon during the last day of the market but there were few cattle for sale.

Speaking to ANI, Jakir Hossain, a cattle seller said, "I have come to sell cattle in this market for the Eid festival. Though, I demanded the price of Rs 1.85 lakh for my cattle, but the customers are bargaining for 1.5 lakh till now."

Talking about the price hike during the fest, a customer said, "Since there is a ritual (for sacrifice), so I have come here to buy a cattle at the Bishalghar market. However, I feel the price of cattle is little high."

Most of the cattle sold during this time are slaughtered and sacrificed on the festival of Eid, a ritual followed by the Muslims population throughout the globe. (ANI)
