Patna (Bihar) [India], September 10 (ANI): Amid allegations of offering money to the family of the victim of the rape and murder case at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha said that he doesn't have any reason to believe anyone else other than her in this case.
Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, Sinha said that one cannot hold any Chief Minister responsible for such a heinous crime and the same goes for Mamata Banerjee. He further questioned if it was appropriate to say anything on the matter, which is under the supervision of the Supreme Court and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
"I don't have any reason to believe anyone else other than Mamata Banerjee. I had already said that what had happened was a heinous crime... I condemn the act and hope that this doesn't happen to anyone or any family," he said.
"But this matter is under the watch of the Supreme Court and the CBI is investigating this, so is it appropriate to say anything about it? I want to say not just for Mamata Banerjee but for any Chief Minister that a Chief Minister can not be held responsible for such a crime. People were saying that she is the minister of the (health) department and needs to take action and she did take action against the cases," Sinha added.
Earlier on Monday, while holding an administrative review meeting in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee dismissed accusations of offering money to the victim's family as "slander" and a conspiracy involving the Centre and Left parties.
"I have never offered money to the deceased doctor's family; this is nothing but slander. I told the deceased doctor's parents that if they wanted to do something in their daughter's memory, our government was with them. Kolkata Commissioner of Police, Vineet Goyal, offered to resign after RG Kar protests, but we need someone who knows law and order ahead of Durga Puja," she said. (ANI)
