New Delhi [India], October 4 (ANI): Delhi BJP Media Head Praveen Shankar Kapoor on Friday wrote a letter to former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, demanding that he publicly burn the affidavit dated June 7, 2013, in which he had promised never to take a government bungalow, vehicle, or security.
Kapoor stated that Arvind Kejriwal often does the exact opposite of what he pledges.
Even today, Delhi remembers that affidavit from June 7, 2013, which was distributed door-to-door, where Kejriwal had stated that he would not take a car, bungalow, or security.
Praveen Shankar Kapoor further said that while Kejriwal was the Chief Minister, it was part of protocol and security concerns for him to take a bungalow, security, and other facilities. However, now that he has stepped down from the position of Chief Minister and is only an MLA, his attachment to the bungalow contradicts his earlier statements and proves the promises in the affidavit to be false.
It is inappropriate for an MLA to enjoy the facilities provided to a Member of Parliament. An MP receives free services like water, electricity, telephone, and two staff members, and all the facilities under the name of MP Ashok Mittal are now being availed by the Kejriwal family.
In a letter to Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi BJP Media Head said that Kejriwal should publicly burn the original copy of the affidavit of June 7, 2013, in front of the media outside his new residence at 5 Ferozshah Road so that the people of Delhi no longer question him on morality.
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal on Friday vacated the 6, Flagstaff Road residence to move to his new address in the Lutyens' Zone. He moved to a bungalow at 5 Ferozshah Road, which is currently allotted to AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal.
Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) confirmed, "Arvind Kejriwal will shift to the bungalow allocated to party MP Ashok Mittal at 5, Ferozshah Road." Notably, as per sources, Mittal had himself extended the offer for Arvind Kejriwal to shift to his residence.
On September 17, Kejriwal tendered his resignation as Chief Minister to Delhi LG VK Saxena, following which Atishi staked claimed to form the new government days after the AAP chief was released on bail from Tihar jail in the excise policy case.
Kejriwal said that he would return to the post only if he gets a renewed mandate and a "certificate of honesty" from the people of Delhi in the Assembly polls likely to be held in February 2025.
Atishi took oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi on September 22 after she was named successor to the post by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. (ANI)
