Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), [India] Dec 4 (ANI): Police have arrested four people and detained five others in connection with Bulandshahr violence that left two people, including a senior police officer, dead on Monday.
However, the main accused is yet to be arrested, police said.
"I don't know about the organisations involved in the violence yet, but the main accused in the violence is Yogesh Raj who has not been arrested till now," informed Anand Kumar, ADG (Law and Order) of Uttar Pradesh Police.
Those arrested, among the 27 accused named in the FIR, have been identified as Chaman, Rambal, Ashish Chauhan and Satish.
"Police teams are trying to arrest Yogesh Raj, an accused named in the FIR, who is a distinguished man in the city", Anand Kumar asserted.
On Monday, an angry mob threw stones and torched vehicles outside a police station over reports of a cattle carcass lying in the fields. Inspector Subodh Verma and a local youth, identified as Sumit, died in the clashes.
Violent protests erupted in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district on Monday, over reports of cattle carcass lying in the fields.
The angry mob threw stones and torched vehicles outside a police station. Inspector Subodh Verma and a local youth, identified as Sumit, died in the clashes.
"A bullet has been recovered from the body of Sumit. The final post-mortem report will ascertain the bore of the bullet," ADG Kumar told reporters here.
The death of the cop in the violence raked up a controversy with various claims doing rounds how he died.
"It would be premature to say it was an intelligence failure or failure of any other agency. No action will be taken against any policeman till the probe is complete," Kumar asserted, adding that six Special Investigation Team (SITs) have been formed to investigate the matter.
The administration has deployed police in Bulandshahr to ensure peace and protection in the area. (ANI)
