New Delhi [India], July 18 (ANI): Ahead of the Union budget 2024-25, Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh on Thursday expressed his excitement for Budget 2024-25 saying that this budget will set a tone for the 'sankalp' of Viksit Bharat.
Notably, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present Budget for 2024-25 in Lok Sabha on July 23.
"We are very happy and waiting for the Union Budget. When it comes to the University of Delhi, we are getting adequate grants from the Government of India. Last year, we also received adequate funding from the Government...But yes, we are very excited because this budget will set a tone for the 'sankalp' of Viksit Bharat...I am very hopeful that this budget will provide foundations for this jump for our country to become the Viksit Bharat... Now our economy size is about to be 4 trillion dollars and we want to be a 40 trillion dollar economy so a big jump is expected, I am very hopeful that this budget will provide foundations for this jump for our country to become Viksit Bharat," Singh told ANI.
He also added that the 'Sankalp' for Viksit Bharat by 2047 will not happen without the active participation of higher education of our country.
"There is always a need to invest more in education, there is no debate on that. But now we are implementing the National Education Policy and University of Delhi will have now third year under NEP...So, we are working on additional infrastructure and this budget will give decent amount to education. Education and health are both priority sectors of the Government also. When we have taken a 'Sankalp' for Viksit Bharat by 2047, this will not happen without the active participation of higher education of our country," DU Vice-Chancellor added.
Earlier, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre on Wednesday, alleging that India has been locked in a cycle of low investment since 2014, which has marred its prospects of growing at a faster rate.
Blaming the BJP government's "erratic policy, rampant cronyism," and the alleged misuse of central agencies, the Rajya Sabha MP asserted that India needs a new "liberalized approach" to political economy, not "marginal policy tinkering."
"The single most important statistic that explains India's inability to grow faster since 2014 is the sluggish investment rate. India has been locked into a cycle of low investment since 2014, due to a combination of erratic policy, rampant cronyism, and the ED/IT/CBI Raid Raj," Ramesh said in a statement.
Notably, after presenting the upcoming budget, Sitharaman will surpass the record set by former Prime Minister Morarji Desai, who presented five annual budgets and one interim budget between 1959 and 1964 as finance minister. Sitharaman's upcoming Budget speech would be her sixth. (ANI)
