British parliamentarian quashes reports of ban on officials to visit gurudwaras

New Delhi [India], Jan 9 (ANI): United Kingdom's Conservative Party leader Ranbir Singh Puri quashed reports that the UK was planning to ban Indian officials from visiting gurudwaras in the country.

Speaking to ANI, the UK parliamentarian leader said: "There is no such law in Britain that anyone should be stopped to visit any place of worship."

"Everyone is allowed to go everywhere. If someone has done this (banning of officials), it is not right," added Puri, when asked about the ban elsewhere.

The reaction comes days after reports emerged that a Sikh organisation in the UK had proposed a ban on Indian officials from visiting the gurudwaras in the country, to what it said was their "interference and anti-Sikh activities".

Last week, 14 Gurudwaras were closed down for the officials in Canada's Ontario province and 16 more were reported to bar officials' entry to the place of worship.

Meanwhile, the American Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) have claimed that at least 96 Gurudwaras, located across the US have passed a resolution, banning the entry of officials in the gurudwaras. (ANI)
