Bragging not required on surgical strikes: KTS Tulsi

New Delhi [India], March 11 (ANI): Congress Rajya Sabha MP and senior lawyer KTS Tulsi on Monday said that surgical strikes are amiss if the objective for peace on the borders is not attained.
"This type of bragging is not required on surgical strikes. Three surgical strikes or 30 surgical strikes, people only want to know whether or not there is peace on the border. If every day, killings are going on, whether of security forces or civilians, then surgical strikes are amiss," said Tulsi criticising the central government on the issue.
He added, "Something is wrong in the manner BJP has handled the situation in Kashmir. Why have the killings increased by about 300 times? The question is that many more personnel from security forces as well as civilians are dying, so whatever policy the BJP government has adopted has not worked. There is something wrong with it and needs introspection."
Speaking to ANI, he also took a jibe on the announcement of election dates and said the Election Commission wanted to ensure that the Prime Minister completes his five years before results are out.
Speaking about simultaneous elections, Tulsi said, "I don’t know what happened to the resolve of the government on One Nation One Election."
"Even the assemblies which are already dissolved, they don't want to hold elections. What is the government worried about?" he said expressing his discontent over assembly polls not being conducted in Jammu and Kashmir along with Lok Sabha elections.
Over the Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid issue, he emphasised that mediation in the Ayodhya case should be done without imposing any conditions.
"If one welcomes mediation, it is a process of give and take. If you impose conditions then mediation will never work," he said.
The Supreme Court had on Friday ordered a court-monitored mediation in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid caseir case and appointing a three-member panel.
On holding of elections during Ramzan, Tulsi was of the opinion that poll dates should be shifted, if feasible, to accommodate the period of fasting.
Speaking to ANI, Tulsi said, "If it’s possible to shift the poll dates to accommodate the 'roza' dates, then Election Commission may consider. I don't know if it is possible but if it is feasible then it should be done."
The Election Commission on Sunday announced the schedule for Lok Sabha elections 2019. The dates for the seven phases are April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting of votes will be done on May 23. (ANI)
