"Blatant crude attempts of parties": Congress accuses BJP of promoting 'Delhi 2020'

"Will the Election Commission take notice of the hateful film by BJP? They are trying to spread hate in Delhi ahead of the elections, and it is a fact," Singhvi said. He also stressed that while India celebrates Amrit Mahotsav, the BJP was allegedly spreading "communal poison" during the election period.

 Congress Member Parliament, Abhishek Singhvi

New Delhi [India], January 26 (ANI): Congress Member Parliament Abhishek Singhvi has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of undermining the true essence of the word "Republic," claiming the current government is operating with a "monarch approach" that dilutes the core concept of a republic.
Speaking at a press conference, Singhvi criticised the Election Commission of India (ECI) for failing to take action against what he described as "hateful propaganda" by the BJP ahead of the Delhi elections. He pointed out the BJP's promotion of the controversial film Delhi 2020, alleging it was an attempt to incite communal hate.
Singhvi highlighted that Congress had filed complaints with the EC to expose the BJP's attempts to sabotage democracy during elections. "Yesterday, we filed comprehensive complaints before the EC to expose, vivify and thwart the blatantly crude attempts of parties just during and before the electoral process to sabotage democracy," he said.
The Congress leader then pointed to the film Delhi 2020, claiming the BJP was heavily involved in its promotion. "The film is being promoted by the BJP as if they are the co-producers, co-directors, and co-investors in the film. The trailer was shared on the social media handle of Amit Malviya of the BJP," Singhvi said.
He also referenced a similar situation in 2019 when the BJP had released a biopic on Prime Minister Modi just before the general elections, leading the EC to intervene. Singhvi urged the EC to act swiftly on the Delhi 2020 film to ensure electoral fairness.
"We hope and trust the EC does not delay and decide the matter by default," Singhvi added, emphasising the need for transparency in the electoral process. He also condemned an amendment to the Conductive Election Rules 1961, which he claimed had led to a lack of transparency in the electoral process.
"We hope that the Honorable SC removes the opacity in the process which has been unfortunately introduced by the amendment very recently," Singhvi said.
The Delhi Assembly elections will take place in a single phase on February 5, with the counting of votes set for February 8. A total of 699 candidates are competing for the 70 assembly seats in Delhi. (ANI)
