Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], February 16 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader N Ramachander Rao on Sunday, welcomed Congress MP Shashi Tharoor's appreciation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the US, saying this should be the spirit of political parties of showing national interest.
He slammed Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of "criticising" the country abroad. Taking a jibe, Rao said that Rahul should take a 'cue' from his party's MP and learn that outside the country, we are all one.
Speaking to ANI, Rao said, "We welcome Shashi Tharoor's statement. This should be the spirit of political parties and they should show their national interest, not like Rahul Gandhi who travels abroad and criticises India and the Indian Prime Minister... He should take a cue from his party MP and learn that we may fight inside the country but outside the country we are all one... Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi have more political interest than national interest."
He also criticised Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann for the row over the deportation of Indian nationals from the United States, and said their focus should be on investigating how the Indian nationals reached the US illegally and the human trafficking angle behind it.
"You and others are not focusing on issues where the criticism should be made... The Punjab government should be happy that illegal immigrants are being brought to the country. Let us think about their future and investigate how they reached here illegally. Let us investigate who sends them on this path and why human trafficking is increasing. The CM should focus on investigating on why there is a continuous increase of human trafficking in his state," Rao said.
This comes after Tharoor said that though there are some important outcomes for the country from the visit, it has to be answered whether the PM raise the issue of the manner in which the Indian nationals were deported from the US.
The Congress leader said that he can't be only praising or criticising every time, and there needs to be some 'give and take' in a democracy. (ANI)
