Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 19 (ANI): Terming the appointment of Nallu Indrasena Reddy as the Tripura Governor a "violation of model code of conduct" in Telangana, Congress leader G Niranjan on Thursday said that he has written to Election Commission urging the poll body to withdraw the notification issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu appointed BJP national secretary Indra Sena Reddy as the Governor of Tripura and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das as the governor of Odisha.
"The Election Commission of India (ECI) issued schedule for the five state polls, including Telangana. During the period of enforcement of modal code of conduct, no new appointments should be made by the state government or Union government. We are surprised how the Rashtrapati Bhavan issued a communication appoiting a person from Telangana, Indrasena Reddy as a Governor of Tripura. It is a total violation of model code of conduct," Niranjan told ANI.
Niranjan said that the ECI should look into the matter and advice Rashtrapati Bhavan to withdraw the decision.
"We requested the ECI to immediately go into the details of it and advise the Rashtrapati Bhavan to withdraw the communication because the decision has been taken on the advice of the Central government. So this has been only to influence the voters of Telangana," he added.
Earlier on October 9, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that the Telangana Assembly polls are scheduled to be held on November 30.
The Model Code of Conduct has come into force with the announcement of poll dates.
Telangana is set to witness a triangular contest between the BJP, the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi, and the Congress in the upcoming assembly election.
In the previous Assembly election held in 2018, BRS won 88 seats out of 119 and had a dominant vote share of 47.4 per cent. Congress came in a distant second with 19 seats. Its vote share was 28.7 per cent. (ANI)
