Kamrup (Assam) [India], July 16 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers staged a protest on Wednesday against Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Assam's Kamrup district.
The protest took place in the Bongaon area, close to where the Congress meeting was held.
Protesters waved placards and shouted slogans targeting Rahul Gandhi, expressing strong opposition to his political presence in the state.

"We never take Rahul Gandhi seriously. Therefore, that era of Congress is over, that family nepotism is over and the Indian political background is of no use to Rahul Gandhi in Indian politics," said the BJP Kamrup District Secretary during the protest.
He further added, "What we only want to say about Rahul Gandhi is that the son of a foreign mother can never be a country lover."
Another protestor, Nitin Kalita said, "We are protesting here, so today is the meeting of Congress. Rahul Gandhi is coming, we do not take it seriously. Today we are protesting in support of those people who have come, the citizens who have entered our area by force to do so, we are protesting it."
Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi said that Congress will sweep next year's Assembly polls in Assam and launched a sharp attack on Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying he does not think himself as Chief Minister but a "king".
Addressing a rally in Chhaygaon, Rahul Gandhi said that the party has a new team in the state under leadership of party MP Gaurav Gogoi and it will deliver results.
"The people of Assam know the truth. There will be elections soon, and the Congress will sweep those elections. We have created a new team here. We have started the work, and the people of Assam will soon see the results we will see it," he said.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also addressed the gathering.
Gaurav Gogoi earlier told ANI that that Congress in Assam will fight for justice for all people who were living "under fear" and were facing persecution by the BJP government here. (ANI)
