BJP says fodder scam, a case of 'brazen corruption'

New Delhi [India], Dec 24 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prashad's conviction in the fodder scam, an open-and-shut case of "brazen corruption", didn't come as a surprise.

BJP leader GVL Narsimha Rao also raised an objection to the former Bihar chief minister's remark where he compared himself to Dr BR Ambedkar.

"Lalu Prasad's conviction surprises no one in this country because the fodder scam is an open-and-shut case of brazen corruption carried out in defrauding the public exchequer. When he compares himself to Dr BR Ambedkar, we take strong objection to it", Rao told ANI.

He also trained guns on the Congress Party and said the latter should also condemn Lalu's statement on Ambedkar.

"If the Congress doesn't do it, it will be seen as they are in his company," he said.

Lalu on Saturday evoked the names of leaders Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther and Babasaheb Ambedkar following his conviction in the scam.

The former Bihar chief minister took to his Twitter handle and said that Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Baba Saheb Ambedkar wouldn't have been treated in the same manner if they had failed in their efforts.

Earlier on Saturday, Lalu, along with fourteen others, were pronounced guilty, while seven other accused were acquitted, including Mishra in the fodder scam.

Lalu has been convicted in the case relating to embezzling of more than Rs 89 lakh from the Deoghar Treasury between 1991 and 1994.

The fodder scam involved the embezzlement of about Rs 900 crore from the Bihar exchequer. (ANI)
