Mysuru (Karnataka) [India], August 9 (ANI): Karnataka Minister of Housing and Minorities Welfare, Zameer Ahmed Khan accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of protesting under the guise of Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) "scam" and Valmiki ST Corporation issues.
Speaking at the Janandolana rally organized at Maharaja College Grounds here on Friday, he said that the "pro-people decisions" and successful implementation of plans by the government have "caused anxiety" for the BJP and JD(S). Therefore, they are organizing a protest under the guise of the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and Valmiki Corporation scams".
Criticizing the state BJP, he said, "No other government has witnessed as many scandals as during the BJP government, including the COVID scandal, APMC scandal, Keonics scandal, and Devaraj Urs Truck Terminal scandal. They are roaming around pretending to teach moral lessons."
"On the other hand, the Congress government has implemented five guarantees within one year of coming to power. The sixth guarantee is providing free housing to 2.3 lakh poor families with an allocation of Rs. 8,000 crore," he added.
He said that 35,419 houses were given in the Mandya district and 1 lakh houses in Mysuru district during Siddaramaiah's tenure. "In contrast, during Kumaraswamy's tenure and BJP's tenure, they gave 630 and 1,800 houses, respectively."
"This shows their concern for the poor. The BJP-JD(S) leaders who are coming for the protest should be asked by the public what their contribution is to the state's development," he said.
Earlier in the month, Congress started the 'Jan Andolan Yatra' to counter the BJP padyatra highlighting the alleged MUDA "scam" involving Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah's wife BM Parvathi.
Earlier, a complaint was filed by social activist Snehamayi Krishna against Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and nine others for allegedly forging documents to claim compensation from the Mysuru Urban Development Authority.
The complaint alleges wrongdoing by Siddaramaiah, his wife Parvathy, his brother-in-law Malikarjuna Swamy Devaraj, who claimed to be a landowner, and his family. It was further alleged that MUDA created fake documents and obtained plots worth crores of rupees. Snehamayi Krishna has raised several questions in his complaint.
The BJP demands that the land given to the CM's family should be returned. The opposition accused Siddaramaiah of usurping the lands that belonged to the Dalit community. (ANI)
