BJP must not consider itself above Constitution: BSP on Rahul Gandhi's Amethi visit

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 3 (ANI): The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Tuesday suggested that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) must not consider itself above the Constitution, after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was initially not allowed to visit his constituency Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking to ANI, BSP leader Sudhindra Bhadoria said, "These people, who have acted in this manner, should restrain and understand that Constitutional guarantees are there. It is the fundamental right of any citizen to travel and they shouldn't be more powerful than the Constitution."

He dubbed it as a mistake on the part of the BJP government in the state to give an excuse for not allowing Rahul Gandhi to visit the state.

The Amethi District Magistrate Yogesh Kumar on Sunday requested the Congress district president to reschedule the visit of their party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, in view of Muharram and Durga idol immersion.

The Amethi district administration, however, later said it was ready for his three-day tour beginning Wednesday.

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Amethi from 4-6 October. (ANI)
