New Delhi [India], September 10 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) high command held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the party's ongoing membership drive campaign.
The meeting, chaired by BJP President and Union Minister JP Nadda, was held at the party headquarters in Delhi. It was also attended by other senior party leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Organization General Secretary BL Santosh.
The membership drive, called 'Sanghatan Parva, Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024,' began on September 2. Vinod Tawde, the campaign convenor, stated that state presidents from nine states were called, and a meeting was held with their teams.
"A meeting was held with many state presidents and party officials to discuss ways to improve the campaign. From MPs to all workers, targets have been set, with a focus on reaching every section of society, including women and villages. All these issues were discussed with the state teams," said Tawde.
State presidents from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan attended the meeting.
Tawde further elaborated that, since the campaign's start on September 2, the BJP has already crossed the 2 crore membership mark.
According to sources, the Odisha state unit has been instructed to run as many campaigns as possible, targeting farmers' markets and youth.
"Instructions have been given to promote the BJP membership drive through various campaigns. The goal is to add as many people as possible at more than 37,000 booths in Odisha. Last year, over 40 lakh members were enrolled in Odisha, and this time the target has been increased to one crore," said the source.
The Uttar Pradesh state unit has reportedly been given the target of enrolling more than 2 crore members, to recruit 200 members at each booth.
After a presentation by Bihar state president Dilip Jaiswal, the party's top leadership set a target of 1 crore members for the state. Jaiswal has been asked to compile a list of 200 senior leaders who will travel to different areas of Bihar and lead campaigns to recruit new BJP members.
JP Nadda has urged the Bihar state president to organize several programs to boost the membership drive.
Further instructions were given to put up hoardings across the state and to raise awareness through wall paintings.
Madhya Pradesh President VD Sharma was also present. The state has set a target of 2 crore memberships this year. Last year, the target was 1 crore, and so far, 41 lakh people have taken BJP membership through digital means, sources said.
Another meeting will be held next week to review the membership campaign in the remaining states. (ANI)
