New Delhi [India] August 14 (ANI): Bhartiya Janata Party leader Nitesh Rane on Wednesday called comedian Munawar Faruqui a "habitual offender" after Faruqui made alleged derogatory remarks about Konkani people for which he later apologised.
Nitesh Rane said, "He is a habitual offender, once he said something wrong about people of the Hindu community and then about Lord Ram and later he said sorry for it."
Maunawar Faruqui has apologised after he made derogatory remarks on Konkani people during a stand-up comedy show which sparked a major outburst on social media against him.
Refusing to accept Faruqui's apology, Rane said, "He spoke about Konkan people and apologised. Then we can also slap him and apologise about it. Konkani people, our religion is not a joke. He should stop this."
Munawar Faruqui posted his apology video on Instagram saying, "I noticed that people are getting hurt over my clip and as a comedian, I do not want to hurt anyone. The people I made the joke about enjoyed the show a lot. There were people from all backgrounds at the show - Marathis, Muslims and Hindus)"
He further added, "When we see such things [reactions] on the Internet, we notice it. We understand the issue. I want to apologise and say sorry to all. Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra."
Earlier, Nitish Rane posted a video on X in which he criticised Faruqui for making such derogatory remarks about the Konkani people.
Munawar Faruqui has been subjected to a lot of controversies. In 2021, he was arrested by Madhya Pradesh police in Indore as some members of the BJP accused him of making fun of Lord Rama. (ANI)
