BJP leader booked for assaulting woman in MP's Indore

Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], September 17 (ANI): A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Chairman of state Kesh Shilpi Mandal (equivalent to the status of cabinet minister) Nandkishore Verma was booked for allegedly assaulting and hurling abusive words to a woman in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district, a police officer said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Rau police station in the city on Monday, September 16 at around 11 am, according to the FIR. A video of the incident also went viral on social media.

Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rubina Mizwani said, "A woman came to the police station with a video on Monday and said that she had an old dispute regarding property. When she reached her hotel yesterday for cleaning purposes, her brother-in-law (her husband's elder brother) Nandkishore Verma had scuffled with her and hurled abusive words."
"On the complaint of the woman, the police registered a case against the accused Nandkishore Verma. It came to notice that Verma holds the status of state cabinet minister. Further proceedings into the matter are underway," she added.
According to the FIR, the complainant told the police, "I went to my hotel with my brother to get it cleaned and my brother-in-law Nandkishore Verma was already sitting at the hotel. We have old family disputes and on seeing me he asked why I had come here and started questioning my character."
"When I asked him why he was saying that, he started abusing and pushing me. My brother and others saw the incident and tried to intervene. My brother-in-law Nandkishore also threatened that if I came here again, he would kill me," she further added, stated the FIR.
The case has been registered under sections 296, 115 (2) and 351 (2) of Bhartiya Nyay Sahita (BNS), 2023, the FIR read. (ANI)
