Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 30 (ANI): Congress leader and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge on Thursday slammed the suspended JD-S leader Prajwal Revanna over the obscene video case and alleged that the leader moved the court for anticipatory bail on the instructions of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Prajwal Revanna filed an application for anticipatory bail in connection with the alleged obscene video case on Wednesday. The bail plea has been filed at the Bengaluru Sessions Court.
"I'm quite surprised that he remained silent when videos went viral, when a complaint was filed by the victims, and when the pen drives were being distributed. Suddenly, his consciousness wakes up and he says I was depressed and isolated. If you see the video closely, it doesn't look like a person in depression is speaking. He did not say a word about the victims. He could have said the same thing on Days 1, and 2. Why did it take him 30 days? If you look from a bird's eye view, you'll know that the BJP is directing everything," Priyank Kharge told ANI.
He further said that as soon as Prajwal Revanna lands, he will be taken into custody.
"It's a matter of time, as soon as he (Prajwal Revanna) lands, he will be taken into custody," he added.
The Congress leader accused the BJP of not showing support in this case and alleged that BJP leaders knew about the antecedents of Prajwal Revanna.
"The BJP candidate made a full public appearance and has claimed that there are certain videos. He wrote to the BJP high command. He himself has said that the high command in Delhi was aware of it. He also said that he went to a hotel to meet Amit Shah. BJP leaders knew about the antecedents of Prajwal Revanna. They gave him a ticket, and PM Modi campaigned for him. The BJP who showed excessive support for the Hubballi case is not showing support in this case," he said.
"If PM Modi can stop the Russia-Ukraine war if he can ensure bombing doesn't happen in Gaza during Ramazan, he couldn't find where Prajwal is?" he questioned PM Modi.
Earlier, Prajwal Revanna, in a self-made video released on Monday, said that he will appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on May 31 for questioning.
Revanna said that his trip was pre-planned as there was no case against him when the voting was held in Karnataka on April 26 for the general elections. He also alleged political conspiracy against him as he was "growing in politics." Revanna's location is still unknown and is supposedly in Germany, according to officials.
The SIT, earlier arrested two prime accused in connection with the case, said police. The arrested have been identified as Naveen Gowda and Chetan.
According to police sources, the accused were arrested when they appeared before the High Court seeking anticipatory bail. Arrested Chetan Gowda and Naveen Gowda allegedly distributed pen drives containing videos of Prajwal Revanna sexually assaulting women.
SIT has filed a case against five including her husband and father of Prajwal Revanna, HD Revanna.
HD Revanna was arrested earlier in connection with a kidnapping case on April 29. He was granted conditional bail by a special court for people's representatives. The case, registered on April 28 at the Holenarasipura town police station, involves allegations of sexual assault by Revanna and his son, Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, on a woman who worked in their household.
