South 24 Paraganas (West Bengal) [India], January 2 (ANI): TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee on Friday continued his criticism of the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging that the BJP, in coordination with the poll body, is attempting to curb the rights of the people of West Bengal through the Special Intensive Revision process.
Banerjee, who launched the "Abar Jitbe Bangla" (Bengal will win again), asserted that the people of West Bengal are ready to give the BJP a "vidai" (farewell) in the ensuing polls.
"BJP wants to curb the rights of the people of Bengal through SIR. People will demonstrate their power to them with a good 'vidai'. Today, I am launching this major campaign for the upcoming election from Baruipur. Tomorrow, I will travel to Alipurduar and visit multiple districts. I will fight with you on the ground as Mamata Banerjee's soldier," Abhishek Banerjee said while addressing a gathering in South 24 Paraganas.
Taking a dig at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Banerjee mockingly called him "Vanish Kumar," warning that the TMC is heading to New Delhi, after which Home Minister Amit Shah and the ECI would "flow in water".
"Be ready, 'Vanish Kumar' (CEC Gyanesh Kumar). TMC is ready, we are coming to Delhi. If one-third of the TMC workers and supporters go to Delhi. Gyanesh Kumar and Amit Shah will flow in water," Banerjee added.
Banerjee also responded to reported remarks by West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, who allegedly praised Bangladesh's Mohammad Yunus interim government as better than the TMC's administration in West Bengal.
"Suvendu Adhikari said the Yunus Govt is running a better government than the Bengal government. You all know Dipu Das was murdered in Bangladesh, and this BJP leader is saying Yunus is running good governance over there. Is this BJP's Hindutva? Those who insult Rabindranath Tagore and Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, will they save Bengal?" Banerjee said while questioning Adhikari's remarks.
Earlier, on December 31, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of facilitating "vote theft" and claimed that electoral manipulation does not occur through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) but through administrative processes linked to voter list revisions.
Abhishek Banerjee led a ten-member Trinamool Congress that met the Chief Election Commissioner of India in the national capital.
Citing the BJP's unusually high strike rate in recent state elections, Banerjee pointed to victories in Maharashtra, Delhi, Haryana, and Bihar, where the party won with an over 88 per cent success rate. He questioned whether this pattern was merely a coincidence, asserting that opposition parties such as the Congress, AAP, and RJD failed to identify and challenge these systemic issues in a timely manner.
