New Delhi [India], August 28 (ANI): BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged on Wednesday that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee "straight away threatened doctors" with her statement of not regsitering FIRs against protesting doctors following the Kolkata rape and murder incident.
The BJP MP also criticised the police action on the protestors as he dubbed the CM's statement as a "new strategy to threaten" doctors.
"After the attempt to mislead the probe, save the accused and destroy evidence, now a new strategy to threaten Doctors can be seen...CM did a PC and said 'I don't want FIRs to be registered and their (Doctors) careers get destroyed and they face trouble in getting passports and Visas'...BJP wants to say clearly that Mamata Banerjee has straight away threatened Doctors," Trivedi said on Wednesday.
While addressing a press conference in the national capital, the BJP leader hit out at Bengal CM and said that the issue of justice for this victim is not an election issue.
"I want to tell West Bengal CM Mamata ji that Madam, the issue of justice to this victim is not an election issue. This is a matter of proving it in a court of law based on evidence and punishing the culprits. 'Justice will be in favour of the one who has power'! This thinking is the most dangerous thinking for the constitution," he said.
Earlier today while speaking at a public in Kolkata Mamata Banerjee had claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using his party to cause a fire in Bengal over the Kolkata woman doctor rape and murder incident and warned that if you burn Bengal, other states including Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi too shall burn and your chair will be toppled.
"Some people think this is Bangladesh. I love Bangladesh; they speak like us and share our culture. But remember, Bangladesh is a separate country, and India is a separate country. Modi Babu is using his party to cause fire here. If you burn Bengal, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi too shall burn! We will topple your chair," Mamata Banerjee said.
The brutal rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor on the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital premises sparked outrage all over the country. The incident shook the entire nation, and since then several protests have been staged demanding justice for the victim.
The West Bengal Junior Doctors' Forum held a protest rally in Kolkata today demanding justice for trainee doctor who was tragically raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The rally coincides with the BJP's call for a 12-hour Bangla Bandh on Wednesday across West Bengal that aims to highlight the growing frustration within the medical community over the need for improved safety measures and swift justice.
BJP workers staged a protest in Asansol as well and were seen blocking railway tracks.
On August 27, chaos broke out in the streets of Kolkata with security personnel lobbing tear gas shells, used water cannons and resorted to lathi-charge to disperse protestors on the Howrah Bridge marching towards the West Bengal State Secretariat Nabanna, amidst the growing protests over the rape-murder incident.
On August 25, Parimal Dey, a teacher from Alipurduar in West Bengal who was honoured with the Banga Ratna award by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2019, has decided to return the award in protest against the state government's handling of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder incident.
The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. (ANI)
