Agartala (Tripura) [India], Nov 10 (ANI): On the occasion of 'Bhai Dooj' or 'Bhai Phota', Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has vowed to make the state free from crime against women.
Deb's comments came as hundreds of women gathered at the official residence of the Tripura Chief Minister to celebrate the prominent Hindu festival.
Considering Deb as their brother, they performed the rituals and expressed that they were very happy to do so as he (Biplab) not only has taken initiative to protect the women and make the state crime free but had also empowered the women by making ten per cent parallel reservation for them in all recruitments in the Home department.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that no administration would be required if all brothers take the pledge to make the state free from crime against women and encourage women empowerment.
Deb further said that his focus is to make the state free from crime against women and empowerment of women.
This was for the first time in the history of the state that a Chief Minister has taken part in the Bhai Phota festival.
The festival of Bhai Phota, generally celebrated on the Dvitya or the second day after the Kali Puja, is a traditional festival and holds a special importance for brothers and sisters.
On this day, sisters apply vermilion and sandal paste tilaks on the foreheads of their brothers and pray for their prosperity and in return, the brothers shower their sisters with gifts and vow to protect them from evil forces. (ANI)
